Royal Family keyboardist/piano player Nigel Hall hosted the second show of his Wednesday night residency at New York’s Rockwood Music Hall Stage 2 last night. The first night of his residency featured a set of funk music with an electric band: Hall (keyboards, vocals), Eric Krasno (guitar), Adam Deitch (drums), Chris Loftlin (bass), Mel Flannery (vocals), Tania Jones (vocals). Hall switched things up last night and played grand piano the entire show while Krasno switched from guitar to electric bass (his normal instrument in the Nigel Hall Band). In addition to Jones and Flannery on vocals, the band also included Beyonce drummer Nikki Glaspie. Hall closed his show with a solo piano version of “What a Wonderful World.”

Singer/songwriter Sonya Kitchell played Rockwood later in the night and also invited Hall out for a pair of songs. Hall’s Rockwood residency will continue this Wednesday.
