Last night Widespread Panic closed out its celebratory two night stand at the Classic Center in Athens. As with the precious evening, the group revisited some of its early covers. Towards the close of the first set the band performed its first take on The Moody Blues’ “Nights In White Satin” since 10/09/87. Then, near the close of the evening, the group returned to a Grateful Dead song that was once part of its repertoire, with the first “New Speedway Boogie” since 1/18/89. Lead singer John Bell also offered a shout out to Athens and the band Bloodkin before a version of that group’s “Can’t Get High,” which has long been a Panic staple. The evening concluded with a rare double encore, as Panic first returned for “Don’t Be Denied,” “Postcard” and “Driving Song” > “Breathing Slow,” before coming back to the stage for “Porch Song.” Additional reporting by Ariel Rosemberg
