Gregg Allman plays “All My Friends”

Cowboy’s Scott Boyer and Tommy Talton sat in with the Allman Brothers Band at New York’s Beacon Theatre last night.
The guitarists emerged a few songs into the band’s second set for Cowboy’s “Please Be With Me” and “All My Friends.” Duane Allman appeared on the studio version of “Please Be With Me” while Gregg Allman covered “All My Friends” on his Laid Back album. Talton also remained onstage for “Hoochie Coochie Man.” Like Derek Trucks, Warren Haynes, Jr. Mack and Devon Allman at other points this Beacon run, Talton performed on Duane Allman’s Goldtop Les Paul.

“I just can’t listen to ‘Please Be With Me’ without crying,” Butch Trucks said in a recent Jambands.com interview. “That’s one of the last songs that Duane ever played on. And he thought it sucked. He came back from that session—from that Cowboy session—and he thought it was just terrible. The vibes were so bad because [Cowboy] was falling apart. It was all falling apart—they were all mad at each other. They had no idea how good the music was.”

The Allman Brothers Band’s Beacon run continues Monday.
