David Byrne and The Feelies’ Glenn Mercer sat in with Yo La Tengo last night at Hoboken, NJ’s Maxwell’s. The show was a last minute benefit for Peace Winds Japan and aided victims of the recent earthquakes in Japan. Byrne emerged partway through the group’s set for his own “Tears Are In Your Eyes” and “God Draws Straight” as well as Flatt/Scrugg’s “Give Me Flowers While I’m Living” and Talking Heads’ “Thank You For Sending Me An Angel.”

Later in the show, Mercer sang and played guitar on The Feelies’ “It’s Only Life” and “One The Rooft.” He then added some auxillary guitar to “From A Motel 6” and both sang and played guitar on Velvet Underground’s “Run, Run, Run.” SNL star Fred Armisen—who played in an indie rock band before rising to TV fame—played drums throughout the night. Mercer, Armisen and Byrne have all joined Yo La Tengo at Maxwell’s during the band’s Chanukah residencies.
