Neil Young to Film Massey Hall Shows

Neil Young will return to Toronto’s Massey Hall from May 10-11 for a series of solo performances. Jonathan Demme will film the shows for the final installment in a series of films on the Canadian musician. Other films in the series include 2006’s Neil Young: Heart of Gold and 2008’s Neil Young Trunk Show. Young’s famed January 19, 1971 performance at the venue was released on the live album Live At Massey Hall 1971 in 2007. The show featured early versions of several future Young staples, including five tracks from 1972’s Harvest. Young is currently touring in support of his album Le Noise.

We saw Neil the other night in Richmond, VA, in a small, old, ornate hall which used to be known as the Richmond Mosque. It was incredible! We were saying to each other that we hoped the show was filmed. Hopefully, the Massey Hall shows will be similar to the Richmond show. I’ve been going to Neil shows since the mid ’70s, and the Richmond show was amaaaaaaaaaaazing. He hasn’t lost the ability to surprise!
