Taylor Hicks Joins Soulive at Tornado Benefit

Taylor Hicks at Bowlive in March

Last night, Soulive and Jamie McLean Band performed a Red Cross benefit for Alabama tornado relief. The show—which took place at Birmingham, AL’s Workplay—also saw former American Idol Taylor Hicks perform. Hicks—who guested with Soulive during the band’s ten night residency at Brooklyn Bowl in March—sang and added harmonica to The Meters’ “Just Kissed My Baby” with the group. The show closed out with a massive jam that featured Hicks, McLean and Lettuce’s Ryan Zoidis onstage with Soulive.

The evening also saw Zoidis sit in with Jamie McLean Band on sax during “Cinderella,” a new original the group recently recorded in New Orleans. Tonight, Soulive will host a Royal Family Ball in NOLA with Lettuce, Ivan Neville & Dumpstaphunk and other special guests. Meanwhile the Jamie McLean Band will celebrate Cinco De Mayo at Doc Taylor’s in Virginia Beach, VA.
