Robert Randolph’s Family Reunion

Robert Randolph & the Family Band kicked off a three-night run at Brooklyn, NY’s Brooklyn Bowl last night. Previously confirmed guests Marc Roberge and Benj Gershman of O.A.R. emerged during Randolph’s first set for covers of “When the Levee Breaks” and Led Zeppelin’s “Fool in the Rain.” Randolph also surprised fans by inviting out several former members of the Family Band during the night. Both founding Family Band keyboardist John Ginty and his replacement Jason Crosby—who played with the band from 2003-2008—sat in with Randolph throughout the entire two set show. Blind Boys of Alabama guitarist Joey Williams—who has toured and recorded with the Family Band over the years—also performed with the band throughout their entire concert. The reunion made sense since Randolph rose to fame through gigs at Brooklyn Bowl founder Pete Shapiro’s former club Wetlands.

Robert Randolph & the Family Band will return to Brooklyn Bowl with special guest John Popper tonight. Additional guests are expected.

They also played a great cover of “Billie Jean”, and closed with a fantastic version of “If I Had My Way(Dixie Land)”

Good to hear Robert invited Ginty back on stage after parting ways a long time ago. Ginty was a perfect fit for the Family Band, at least sonically.
