On October 9, Widespread Panic will host their annual Tunes for Tots benefit at the Georgia Theatre in Athens, GA. The concert marks the group’s return to their hometown venue, which has been newly renovated after a fire nearly destroyed it in 2009. The Georgia Theatre has served as a fixture on the Athens music scene for many years, and was one of the venues that first gave Panic their start (see the group’s 1992 concert film Live at the Georgia Theatre directed by Billy Bob Thornton). Proceeds from the benefit are used to supply local area public schools with musical instruments. Tickets are $151 and will go on sale August 20 at 10am EST.

“Panic founded Tunes for Tots charity to support their belief that art education, and in particular music education, is integral in the overall education and advancement of children Art allows for personal expression, appreciation of ideas, celebration of cultural awareness, sharing emotions, and gives purpose to life.”
