Bill Payne Remembers Richie Hayward

One year ago tomorrow, on August 12, 2010, Little Feat’s founding drummer Richie Hayward passed away from complications due to lung disease. At the time he was also suffering from liver cancer and awaiting a liver transplant. Little Feat’s Bill Payne has marked the occasion with a memorial essay that explores the life and music of his longtime friend and band member. Bill, , what i heard @ Penns peak, as i related to you in email shortly after i returned to the Ohio Valley, made miss Richie even more, sorry Bill, Gabe is not getting it done , not at least what i heard, and yes I have heard you guys in various forms over the years, albeit , not w/ Shaun…

I saw them this summer with Gabe and wasn’t sure what to expect. He nailed it as far as I was concerned.

It would be impossible to replace Richie but, Gabe is bringing it in his own way, night after night. The band sounds and feels fabulous. I`d say they are one of the best bands on the planet today.
