Though the rest of the weekend has been cancelled, Dave Matthews Band’s Governors Island Caravan went on as planned yesterday. Dave Matthews Band’s headlining set referenced Hurricane Irene on several occasions: the group opened with an appropriate take on “Don’t Drink the Water” and Matthews’ opened his encore with his debut cover of Neil Young’s “Like a Hurricane.” The rest of the show included live DMB staples like “Crush,” “Jimi Thing,” “All Along the Watchtower” and a version of “Two Step” with an extended drum solo.

Before Dave Matthews Band’s show, Matthews also appeared at Brooklyn, NY’s New York World Police and Fire Games in Prospect Park. Matthews played a three-song, acoustic set that included “Crush,” “Funny the Way It Is” and “You & Me.” Carney—whose members are best known for their involvement in the infamous Broadway musical Spider-Man — also performed at the event.

Friday’s DMB Caravan lineup also featured O.A.R., Soulive, Vieux Farka Toure, Citizen Cope, the Head & the Heart, Josh Ritter and The Wood Brothers (the latter of whom we are proud to say gave Relix a shout out from the stage). The members of Soulive were joined by a three-piece horn section featuring James Casey, Ryan Zoidis and Rashawn Ross. A longtime member of the Soulive/Lettuce family, Ross is now a touring member of Dave Matthews Band.

Dave Matthews Band plans to reschedule the rest of Governors Island Caravan in the coming weeks. All previously purchased tickets will be honored.
