Phish brought its summer tour to a close on Sunday night in Colorado. The band’s performance at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park opened with “Maze,” the first time the song had appeared in that position since December 9, 1995. Then, after a sequence that moved from “Back on the Train” into “Rift” into “Bathtub Gin,” Phish debuted its version of “The Way It goes,” which appears on the new Gillian Welch album The Harrow & The Harvest. The set closed out a bit later with a crowd-pleasing run from “Halley’s Comet” into “Tube” and on through “Timber (Jerry),” “Roses Are Free” and “Chalk Dust Torture.” The second set later opened with a ten minute take on “Rock and Roll” which segued into the first version of the Beatles “Come Together,” since December 8, 1995 (apparently the band was thinking back to its fabled December ‘95 shows). The quartet continued moving from song to song without breaking, a stretch that also offered “Twist,” “Piper,” “Harry Hood,” “Roggae,” “Ghost,” the return of “Guy Forget” (last performed on October 1, 2000 and back into “Ghost.”

Phish has now closed out its 2011 tour itinerary, with New Year’s Eve rumors swirling around New York City and Miami.
