A new tour will celebrate Miles Davis’ early output. The Miles Davis Experience: 1949-1959 recaptures crucial moments in American history through songs in the performers’ early classic periods. Starting with Davis’ 1957’s Birth of the Cool through his 1959’s studio album, Kind of Blue, audiences will take part in music from “the most widely recognized jazz musician and outspoken social critic of his era,” according to The Rolling Stone Encyclopedia of Rock & Roll.

Beyond the musical performance by the Ambrose Akinmusire Quintet, iconic images of that decade will illuminate the backdrop, compiled by beat poet-style narrator and actor, Donald Lacy. The US tour runs from September 28 though November 20, 2011.
