Dickey Betts and Great Southern Join Dan Toler Benefit

Two former Allman Brothers Band guitarists will reunite in November. Dickey Betts and Great Southern will headline a benefit show for ailing guitarist “Dangerous” Dan Toler at Sarasota, FL’s Herschberger Ranch on November 12 and 13. Other acts slated to appear include: BlackHawk, Bo Bice, Wilson Williams and His Platters, Tony Tyler’s Come Back Alice and the Mike Kach Group, among others. Betts and Toler are expected to jam together during the benefit. Toler was diagnosed with Lou Gehrig’s disease earlier this year.

Toler performed with the Allman Brothers Band from 1978-1982. He also participated in the group’s various reunion shows in the mid ‘80s and toured with Gregg Allman. More recently, Toler reunited with Betts for several tours with Great Southern. His brother Frankie Toler—another former member of the Allman Brothers Band—died this past June.

Very tough year for the Toler family. I saw the Allmans in 1979 and 1980 with that lineup.
