Last night, during Umphrey’s McGee’s hometown performance at Lincoln Hall in Chicago, an unexpected turn of events occurred when the venue’s entire block was left without power. The concert, part of the Groupon Presents Chicago Music Series, did go on, although the band was forced to adapt to the situation with various member and instrument configurations.

Umphrey’s lighting director and Relix contributor Jeff Waful provided updates throughout the night via his Twitter feed , noting early on that “Brendan, Jake and Andy have come out to play on electric guitars and perc. Powered from generator in the kitchen Great American.” Eventually, the entire band emerged on stage treating fans to a special set filled with rare instrumentals and covers. The venue’s power was finally restored by the time the group took the stage for the encore, which stretched out for 30 minutes and featured the only songs of the evening off Umphrey’s new album Death By Stereo. As Waful noted at the end of the night, “End show. What a weird one. Thanks for your patience. Mother Nature pwns again.”
