Last night, New Orleans’ Tipitina’s hosted their second annual Fess Fest. The all-star event celebrated the birthday of the club’s founding father Professor Longhair. As previously reported, the show featured the likes of The Tipitina’s All-Star Band with Donald Harrison, Cosimo Effect, Tom McDermott, Joe Krown, Cha Wa Featuring Tom Worrell, Brother Tyrone & The Mind Benders, John Gros, Khris Royal, CR Gruver, Glen David Andrews, Al “Carnival Time” Johnson, David Torkanowsky, Alfred Uganda Roberts, Joshua Paxton, Jo “Cool” Davis, Rich Vogel and DJ Davis Rogan.

In addition, two veteran New Orleans piano players, Dr. John and Allen Toussaint, both made surprise appearances at the show. Toussaint offered a solo piano set while Dr. John performed alongside his Lower 911 band as well as longtime Professor Longhair sideman Alfred “Uganda” Roberts. John Gros also sat in with Dr. John on “Right Place, Wrong Time.”
