Leftover Salmon made a surprise appearance at Avon, CO’s Snowball Music Festival yesterday. The group’s stealth set marked the 10th anniversary of Salmon banjoist and co-founder Mark Vann’s untimely passing. The performance—which took place took at 3:45 PM MST—was first announced on the band’s Facebook page. A note from the band read, “Mark Vann December 28th 1962 – March 4th 2002: Howdy y’all, we hope this message finds you feeling good and loving life. Today, March 4th, is the tenth anniversary of the passing of our beloved friend and banjo player, Mark Vann. It seems like just yesterday that we lost our bluegrass buddy, and we think of him every day. We still find inspiration in his playing, his work ethic, and his love of a good time.” Like their recent fall tour, Salmon streamed the performance for free online..

Leftover Salmon is in the midst of their first full length tour since 2004. The Colorado natives will return to Boulder, CO’s Fox Theatre this Tuesday and Wednesday as part of the club’s 20th anniversary celebration. Though Salmon has not performed at the venue in eight years, they have played the room more times than any other act.
