In an effort to forever solve the trouble caused by onstage sweating, Umphrey’s McGee has joined forces with the athletic apparel maker Under Armour to offer a line of clothing geared towards the professional touring musician. The Umphrey Armour family of products will feature a full array of patented moisture wicking short sleeve and long sleeve shirts, shorts, headbands and hoodies.

“The Idea came to me when we were onstage during the Mayan Holidaze a couple of years ago,” said keyboardist Joel Cummins “It was really hot and humid down in Mexico and my fingers were so sweaty that they kept slipping off the black keys during our set. Yea, only the black keys which was kind of weird but at any rate, it dawned on me that no one produces a line of clothes specifically designed to keep musicians dry while they perform. We approached the good folks at Under Armour and they were game.”

It’s a move that diversifies Under Armour’s standard line of sweat collecting clothing geared towards professional and amateur athletes alike. The band will work with the company’s research and development team to produce custom apparel unique to each type of player, from drummers to guitar players to and beyond. “I know Brendan, Ryan, and Jake were really interested in developing little finger bands, kind of like a miniature headband, to go around their fingers while they play,” said Cummins. “Andy was in there just yesterday being fitted for a custom headband. You know he’s got some very special hair and when he starts really sweating there is no where for that sweat to go to do but down. He ruined a bongo head in Tucson a couple of years ago that way so he’s real excited to see where this relationship goes.”

Not content to be limited to outerwear, bassist Ryan Stasik will head a design team that will produce men’s and women’s undergarments that will be sold separately and named the “Bottom Half Collection.”
