Several guests sat in with Bruce Springsteen & the E-Street Band over the weekend. On Friday night, Springsteen and his expansive E-Street Band performed at Los Angeles, CA’s Sports Arena. Earlier on in his set, Springsteen invited out Rage Against the Machine guitarist Tom Morello—who appears on Springsteen’s new album Wrecking Ball and joined the E-Street Band at SXSW in March—emerged for “Death to My Hometown.” A few songs later, Morello returned for one of the Wrecking Ball tracks where he plays lead guitar, “Jack of All Trades,” and took the stage for a third time at the end of Springsteen’s set for “The Ghost of Tom Joad” and “Land of Hope and Dreams.” Finally, at the end of the night, he emerged for final time for the show’s finale, “Tenth Avenue Freeze-out.”

The Boss welcomed another special guest during his high profile headlining spot at the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival yesterday. Partway through the E-Street Band’s set, Springsteen brought out area hero Dr. John to sing and play piano on “Something You Got.” Springsteen covered the Dr. John original a bit in the early ’70s but has not performed the song sine 1974. Springsteen also referenced his previous visit to JazzFest in 2006 several times during his performance.

Springsteen will perform at Newark, NJ’s Prudential Center on May 2.
