After Coachella’s decision to expand to two weekends paid off so handsomely this year, netting over $47 million in ticket sales alone, it appears another big name music festival may be poised to follow suit.

Austin city officials confirmed this morning that they are in talks with event promoter C3 Presents to double down on the Austin City Limits festival as early as 2013. The proposed expansion for the double-weekend festival would have it extending from its currently scheduled weekend of October 11-13 to the weekend of October 4-6.

In return, it would seem, C3 Presents has pledged to donate generously to the parks department in its efforts to restore outdoor concert venue Auditorium Shores in addition to the portion of ticket sales the Austin-based promoters donate each year to the Austin Parks Foundation.

The 2012 Austin City Limits festival will take place from October 12-14 and features musical acts including Red Hot Chili Peppers, Neil Young and Crazy Horse, The Black Keys, Jack White, Florence + The Machine and The Avett Brothers among many others.
