Swanlund joined the reformed Marshall Tucker Band in 1985 and served as the longest running member of the group, aside from founding member Doug Gray. The group is best known for their 1977 hit “Heard It In a Love Song.”

Swanlund’s funeral takes place this Saturday at the Good Shepherd Memorial Park in Boiling Springs, S.C. He is survived by his sister, three grandchildren, a son, William “Billy” Swanlund, and his lifelong partner, Stacey Schmaren.
