Phil Lesh hosted one of his final summer Rambles at San Rafael, CA’s Terrapin Crossroads last night. Like Thursday’s show, the evening featured Lesh on bass, Ryan Adams & Cardinals/Chris Robinson Brotherhood guitarist Neal Casal, RatDog guitarist Mark Karan, Furthur/Duo drummer Joe Russo, Chris Robinson Brotherhood/Black Crowes keyboardist Adam MacDougall and Ryan Adams & the Cardinals pedal steel player Jon Graboff. At the end of the night, Russo’s Duo partner Marco Benevento also emerged to play keyboards on “Not Fade Away.” The Woodstock, NY-based Benevento was in the area to perform at a wedding and will return to Terrapin Crossroads for a show of his own on September 14. Both Russo and Benevento backed Lesh and his sons at a Princeton University event in early June.
For his encore, Lesh said good bye to the summer with a cover of The Lovin’ Spoonful’s “Summer in the City.” Phil & Friends will Ramble at Terrapin Crossroads again this evening.
