Last night, David Byrne and St. Vincent opened their joint tour at Minneapolis, MN’S State Theater. An outing in support of their new collaborative album Love This Giant, Byrne and St. Vincent leaned heavily on new material throughout the night. But at at several points during their set, the new friends dipped into their individual catalogs. At one point the members of the band—including Byrne—also played their instruments while lying on the floor to give St. Vincent the spotlight.

After kicking off the show with Love This Giant‘s single “Who” and “Weekend In The Dust,” the ensemble moved into St. Vincent’s “Save Me From What I Want” and “Strange Overtones,” a song from Byrne’s 2008 collaboration with Brian Eno Everything That Happens Will Happen Today. As the night progressed the musicians dug even deeper: St. Vincent picked her own “Marrow,” “Cheerleader,” “Northern Lights,” “Cruel” and “The Party” while Byrne led the group through his solo single “Like Humans Do” and his collaboration with the dance outfit X-Press 2, “Lazy.” Byrne also offered a number of Talking Heads favorites like “This Must Be The Place (Naive Melody),” “Burning Down the House” and “Road to Nowhere.” In total, the show lasted 1 hour and 45 minutes.

Byrne and St. Vincent’s Love This Giant tour continues at Milwaukee, WI’s Riverside Theater this evening.
