Flaming Lips leader Wayne Coyne and Nashville, TN-based singer/songwriter Ke$ha sat in with Ben Folds Five at Nashville’s Ryman Auditorium on Monday night. The strange-bedfellows walked onstage arm-in-arm and joined the reunited trio for Conway Twitty/Loretta Lynn mock duet, “You’re the Reason Our Kids Are Ugly.”

“Now we don’t know if [Twitty and Lynn] actually ever sang that song onstage here, but why don’t we say they did that 35 years ago this day,” Rolling Stone reports Coyne joked during the song’s intro. A homecoming for the Nashville, TN-based Folds, the gig was the band’s first indoor performance since reuniting earlier this year (with the exception of their 2008 reunion show at UNC Memorial Hall, the band had not performed inside since 1999). The show also fell on the eve of the release of The Sound of the Life of the Mind, the band’s first new album since 1999.
