Jon Fishman, Guster’s Ryan Miller, Trey Anastasio Band’s Ray Paczkowski and Russ Lawton and many others offered two sets of Rolling Stones tributes at the third Hug Your Farmer benefit concert last night. All proceeds from the door and merch sales went to support the Vermont New Farmer Project, an initiative of the UVM Extension Center for Sustainable Agriculture that provides research, education and technical assistance to Vermont’s aspiring farmers. Bob Wagner, Joshua Panda, Clint Bierman, Peter Day, Steve Hadeka, The Sweet Remains, Matt Hagen & Mike Clifford of Lendway, Kat Wright, Christina Durfee, Nicole Nelson and more also performed at the event. Jon Fishman played the drums for most of the night, though he switched out with Russ Lawton toward the end of the first set. At different points during the second set, Jon was joined by either Russ Lawton or Steve Hadeka on a second drum kit.

The money from this event will be used to help launch the Vermont Youth Agricultural Individual Development Account program, which will give young farmers the assistance they need to get started. The average age of a Vermont farmer is 57, so the Youth IDA program, which is the first of its kind in the nation, is now more important than ever.
