In his recent Jambands.com interview, Allman Brothers drummer Butch Trucks revealed that the veteran group plans to introduce some new, Gregg Allman originals during this year’s Beacon run.

Trucks had this to say in a recent Jamabands.com interview “I know that Gregg is in the best shape he’s probably been in for decades. He’s finally got his liver squared away—all the medications are balanced out, he’s getting his strength back and, along with that, his motivation to write songs. The word is that he’s got a bunch of new songs ready to go, and that right there in itself is something we haven’t had in a few years.”

The Allman Brothers Band started rehearsals a few days ago, and the group has already learned two of Allman’s new tunes. The band has also decided to add seven new covers to their live catalog. In an enthusiastic Facebook post Trucks says, “Wait till you guys hear what’s coming from us this year. 7 new covers, so far, two brand new tunes and we ain’t done yet. Damn, I love this tie of year.”

The Allman Brothers Band’s Beacon residency will kick off this Friday.
