Phish’s Page McConnell will release a new solo LP for Record Store Day 2013. Hidden Track reports that the record, Unsung Cities and Movies Never Made, will consist of ten instrumental tracks, which are meant to be the soundtracks to movies that have not been made. Tea Leaf Green bassist Reed Mathis left a post on Facebook yesterday saying that he, drummer Gabe Jarrett and guitarist Adam Zimmon played in McConnell’s backing band for the record. The tracklist can be found below, and McConnell had this to say about the new album:

“Movies never made, well, at least not yet.  A series of Soundtracks, maybe….can a soundtrack exist without a film?  Okay, future soundtracks, soundtracks-in-waiting, potential scores searching for a script.  In the meantime, hopefully the listener might develop their own plot lines and imagine a storyboard:  Soul Etude, a period piece; The Lemon Drop, A Psychedelic Coming of Age Film; Late Edition, A spaghetti-western; Candlestick, A murder-mystery (possibly an independent Canadian release); or even Arbor Day, a Lifetime Original made-for-TV-movie.  Sprinkled throughout are a few impressionistic interpretations of unsung cities; not to say these places have never been mentioned in song, but certainly not over sung.  Please enjoy these soundtracks as they float through time, a sort of phantom foreshadowing of films that lay in waiting and cities that, after this release, might be a little less unsung.”

In addition to McConnell’s LP, the Wax Poetic blog reports that Phish will also be reissuing Lawn Boy on vinyl for Record Store Day, and that Trey Anastasio will be releasing a 7” called Blue Ash & Other Suburbs for the event. According to the blog, 7500 copies of Lawn Boy will be available, along with 1000 copies of Unsung Cities and Movies Never Made.
