Maria Elena Holly was joined by the Willie Nile Band, Colin Boyd, Bruce Smith and Kelly Halloran for a performance of “Not Fade Away” at the closing of the Buddy Holly Educational Foundation’s Celebrate Buddy! Party at SXSW. The event took place to honor Holly’s legacy and to help fulfill his commitment to encouraging musical education for young people. During the party, The Foundation announced their first scholarship, as well as the “Learning the Game” prize, which will go into effect next year. The scholarship will give a promising music student $5000 per year to attend the University of North Texas. The “Learning the Game” prize will give $10,000, a loan of a replica of Buddy Holly’s guitar, legal and managerial services and other benefits to an unsigned band or artist at SXSW that best reflects the qualities that set Buddy Holly apart. The event also included performances by The Wagoneers, Paul Burch, Seth Glier and more.
