The 7th Annual James Brown Tribute will celebrate the legend’s 80th birthday during this years Jazzfest at the New Orleans’ Maple Leaf Bar. The concert will take place on May 3 and features the New Orleans Soul Stars, which includes Tony Hall on vocals and guitar (Dumpstaphunk, Trey Anastasio Band), Renard Poche on guitar and trombone (Allen Toussaint, N’Dea Davenport), Raymond Webber on drums (Dr. John, Dumstaphunk) and Calvin Turner on bass (Raphael Sadiq.) The horns section is comprised of Tracy Griffin (george Porter’s Runnin’ Pardners), Roderick Paulin (Rebirth Brass Band) and Jeff Watkins, who was the featured soloist in the James Brown Band for the past 12 years. Tickets to the event a now on sale for $20 and the show begins at 2am.

Johnny Sketch and The Dirty Notes will also be celebrating the release of their new CD at the Maple Leaf on the night of May 3. That party will commence at 11pm. Fans will only need to purchase one ticket to attend both of the night’s shows.
