Warren Haynes Sits in with Trombone Shorty in New Orleans

Photos by Dino Perrucci

Last night, Trombone Shorty hosted his first-annual Shorty Fest at New Orleans’ Generations Hall. The evening—which benefited the Trombone Shorty Foundation—also boasted performances by Dirty Dozen Brass Band, Trombone Shorty Academy Band with special guest Zigaboo Modeliste, Hot 8 Brass Band and others. Trombone Shorty Foundation assists local kids with both obtaining instruments and lessons.

On a night off between Gov’t Mule dates, longtime Trombone Shorty supporter Warren Haynes made a surprise appearance at the benefit. Haynes joined Shorty and his Orleans Ave. for a cover of Allen Toussaint’s often-covered classic “On Your Way Down.”

As previously reported, Gov’t Mule are on the road with another rising New Orleans band, The Revivalists.
