Warren Haynes will play Jerry Garcia’s classic Wolf guitar during his upcoming symphony tour. Guitar maker Doug Irwin first gave Garcia Wolf in 1973, and the Grateful Dead guitarist used Wolf throughout the mid-‘70s. The custom guitar made a brief comeback in the late-‘80s when it was remodeled with Garcia’s new MIDI synthesizer.

Several members of the extended Grateful Dead family have played Wolf in public in recent years, including Ryan Adams, Chris Robinson, Neal Casal, Jimmy Herring, Jeff Mattson and Barry Sless.

Haynes’ symphonic celebration of Garcia’s music will kick off at Pittsburgh, PA’s Heinz Hall tomorrow evening. The guitarist will use Wolf throughout his symphony tour.
