Rothbury, MI’s third-annual Electric Forest Festival kicked off last night. Like the festival’s musical offerings in general, the day featured a mix of electronic and jam acts, often exploring the intersection of those two styles. Umphrey’s McGee keyboardist Joel Cummins sat in with Cosby Sweater throughout their entire set and performed with his side-band Digital Tape Machine. Newly appointed sit in king Stanley Jordan also joined the latter act during their show. In terms of non musical sit ins, STS9 lighting designer Saxton Waller ran the light boards for The Werks.

A few bands reminisced about the festival site, too. During his set with Sucker Punch, Marc Brownstein—whose performed at the site as a member of the Disco Biscuits and Conspirator—joked that Thursday was his night at Electric Forest. Lotus reminded the crowd that they started in Northern Indiana just three hours south of the festival site and celebrated by busting out the rarer, early Lotus song “Umbilical Moonrise.” EOTO also turned in well-received a late-night set.

Electric Forest continues today.
