Elizabeth Mitchell & Friends will release The Sounding Joy, an exploration of Christmas and solstice songs from the American folk tradition, on October 15. The tunes on the record are drawn almost exclusively from the songbook of revered composer and anthologist Ruth Crawford Seeger.

The album is Mitchell’s fifth for Smithsonian Folkways, and the singer-songwriter is joined by plenty of special guests for the effort, including her husband Daniel Littleton, her daughter Storey and Peggy Seeger, Natalie Merchant, Amy Helm, Aoife ODonovan, Larry Campbell, Gail Ann Dorsey, Dan Zanes and John Sebastian, among others.
