In an interview with Rolling Stone, Les Claypool revealed drummer Tim “Herb” Alexander will rejoin Primus beginning next week. Alexander originally left the band in 1996, before they released Brown Album in 1997. “Herb had been peeking out of the woods and wanting to play again, so we thought, ‘Well, let’s talk to Tim about it.’” Claypool also mentioned the band plans on heading into the studio this November, but says that is still premature.

As for current drummer Jay Lane, Claypool says, “It’s kind of odd – we love Jayski, he’s my buddy, and we very much enjoyed playing with him. But he has a relationship with Bob Weir that is very tight, and of course, they started RatDog together many years ago, and RatDog’s getting back together this next year.”

For Oysterhead fans, don’t give up hope of a reunion just yet. “We always talk about it. There’s a lot of talk. I think it’s an itch we should start scratching here pretty soon. It’s been long overdue,” Claypool says.

UPDATE: The band confirms the addition of Tim Alexander as well as scheduled studio time this November. In addition, Primus will also hold their New Year’s Eve show at the Fox Theater in Oakland, CA.
