Pretty Lights Announces Full Live Band for Fall Tour

Derek Vincent Smith, better known as Pretty Lights, will hit the road this October with a full live band for the first time. Joining Smith on stage will be drummer Adam Deitch (Break Science), keyboardist Brian Coogan, keyboardist Borahm Lee, Scott Flynn (John Brown’s Body) on trombone and Eric Bloom (Lettuce) on trumpet. Deitch and Coogan both played extensively on Pretty Lights’ latest album A Color Map of the Sun released in July.

“My dream has come true. I will be hitting the road for my 2013 fall tour with a FULL, AWESOME LIVE BAND! We will be fusing new, hot production with the live band’s gritty old school hip-hop soul break styles in a way that production and a live band have never been heard together before,” Smith says.

i am also not the biggest EDM fan but I love Lettuce/Break Science/any other side project so I may actually go check out this show. My biggest problem with DJs is what the fuck are u supposed to watch the whole show. Now I can watch a band and dance, sounds like fun.

last i checked phil, the point of music isnt watching anything, its listening and feeling the music and dancing is the reaction your body makes to the music, you could be completely blind and still enjoy a pretty lights concert, despite the fact that pretty lights has one of the most technologically advanced light shows of any artist, so i dont know if you feel like you must be watching something you could watch that. i fuckin hate people who say this dislike edm for stupid reasons like “What am i supposed to watch?” or “Its just a dude up there pushing buttons and turntables.” Well all the sounds that come out of those buttons, were all played usually on a keyboard and other instruments. all the sounds were designed from scratch which makes the artist not only a musician but a sound engineer, and then they had to be layered and organized, which also makes them composers, they just have handy technological platforms rather than sheet music. and all edm artists who are any good play at least one instrument, otherwise they wouldnt have the theoretical knowledge to piece together the music. now if you actually just dislike the way edm sounds, whatever thats your opinion, but if youre gonna have an opinion make it an educated one. thank you
