Phish Closes Fall Tour in Atlantic City

After the previous night featured multiple “Shaft” quotes and other hijinks, Phish continued that theme throughout their final show at Atlantic City’s Boardwalk Hall. Opening with a fiery “Wilson” and the stellar composition, “Rift,” Phish got the night started on a familiar note during the closing show of their Halloween run.

After jaunts through “Water in the Sky,” “Sample in a Jar,” “Funky Bitch” and “46 Days,” the band delivered one of the first extended versions of “Theme From the Bottom” in the 3.0 era. Phish included a jam that played on the “Shaft” theme and also delivered some banter about Jon Fishman’s least favorite and second-least favorite Presidents (Bush) as well as his favorite beer (Busch). Despite Fishman’s poor taste in beer, the nearly fifteen minute version of “Theme From The Bottom” proved to be a highlight of the night and tour.

The end of the first set included the Mike Gordon original “Yarmouth Road” along with a “Limb By Limb” before the patented “Mike’s Groove” shut it down in fine fashion. Set two kicked off with an exploratory “Down With Disease,” topping out at almost seventeen minutes before segueing into “Piper.” Before the band dropped into the customary “Tweezer,” Phish delivered a couple of cuts rarely played—“Roggae” and “Waves.” The blues rocker “Julius” followed as the band sped through some more traditional cuts including “Backwards Down the Number Line” before “Character Zero” closed the set. “Sleeping Monkey” and “Tweezer Reprise” brought Phish’s Fall tour to a close.

The next time Phish will take the stage will come December 28 as the band begins their New Year’s run at Madison Square Garden.

Here’s a look at the setlist from last night:

Come on jambands.com, you are always so worried about getting Phish sets/reviews out super early, what about Panic? Anybody with ears and eyes knows they absolutely killed it in NOLA this weekend. Definitely more impressive than Wingsuit. Not to take away from Phish’s glory bc their sets this weekend were stellar, but let’s get some Panic reviews up.
I don’t want to write anything up from couch tour.. nobody from jambands or relix attended NOLAween?

Ugh November 3, 2013, 08:22:25

Wow 2013 November 3, 2013, 10:41:28

Please end this year Phish. This has been the most sloppy least inventive tour in the bands history. Hartford, Glen Galls and Rochester are akin to 2003 2004. Relearn your old songs before making people travel and pay for tradition on a holiday before being egomaniacs and being paid to practice your new album. It is tough to respect phans that write reviews on their own dedicated phish phan sites because nobody mentions things like The only Fluffhead being likely the sloppiest version ever or trey forgetting the last two kins of guitar parts in Mikes in Worcester or any of the infinite number of train wrecked songs this year. We get a couple cool jams every three shows and a quite obvious tour where there was no practice. I feel bad for tour kids and reviewers who are all caught up and miss how badly trey is playing 75% of the time. What does he butcher Theme and Slave every time now? Go practice your new album on your own money do not boost your ego enough to think people who have seen the band since the beginning do not notice how rough a tour it was. I apologize to 3.0 fans (me also being one) or water carriers because I know a buzz, a show or stream and a keyboard can make you completely whiff on reality. One major reviewer of the band on his own site is in dire need of rehab as every show is the best ever and Trey is compared to Gahndi, Jordan, OBama, the 86 giants, tiger woods, Winston Churchill or another historic figure while Phish produces the best run ever weekend after weekend. Rehab or band incentive per review? This tour was sloppier than the launch of Healthcare.gov…...My historic context.

Jenny slick November 3, 2013, 13:23:27

Wow whole lotta dumb up in these posts….

jay November 3, 2013, 13:24:39

while i can agree that this fall tour was lackluster in spots, i ZERO complaints about the AC weekend. for them prank their own album is just about the phishiest thing i could think of. if you hate it, stop caring. the boardwalk shows, especially nights2 and 3, were some of the best shows ive personally witnessed since their return. and ive been a loud bitcher since 09. But THAT was what i have traveled all over for.

JT November 3, 2013, 17:26:04

One of the best three day runs. EVER.
You kids…..

I’ve been seeing Phish live since 1985. They’re playing better and more consistently this year since 1998. I’ll criticize them when they deserve it, but these hatah posts have nothing to do with reality. I doubt they even listened to the shows this weekend. 11.1.13 was one of the best in years.

Nicole November 4, 2013, 13:01:41

WSP sux

Joe November 4, 2013, 13:32:32

Like I’ve said numerous times in the past, they should rename this site PHISHBLOWS aka JAMBANDS.COM. Everyday a post about Pheesh, enough already. I don’t need to know that Trey wiped his ass over the weekend!

Dawn Kebolds November 4, 2013, 13:35:34

Hey Nicole..You suck…big old DONKEY BALLS !!!

Ticranium November 4, 2013, 14:04:54

I have listened to Wingsuit every day since they perfomed it. Maybe the best Halloween show from any band, ever.

bill jordan December 17, 2013, 01:06:13
