Bob Weir and Bruce Hornsby will join a lineup that includes BROTHER, Allan Havey, Michael Cavanaugh and By the Way at the Animal Rescue Foundation’s Stars to the Rescue XXIII event on January 4 at Walnut Creek, CA’s Lesher Center for the Arts. The 23rd annual event aims to provide aid to the organization that saves dogs and cats who have run out of time at public shelters.

Started by former Major League Baseball manager Tony LaRussa, ARF started after a stray cat wandered onto the field during a game in Oakland and was set to be euthanized. LaRussa and his wife Elaine took the cat in rather than putting it down, thus beginning ARF.

Weir and Hornsby will perform solo sets, but surely may collaborate together. The two have a storied history together, most notably in the Grateful Dead where Hornsby played keys from 1988 until Jerry Garcia’s death in 1995.
