The String Cheese Incident Celebrate Their 20th Anniversary with Tiny Universe Horns

The String Cheese Incident got some help from the Tiny Universe Horns (Karl Denson & Chris Littlefield) and paid tribute to their original lineup during the first show of their New Year’s/20th Anniversary run at the 1stBank Center in Broomfield, CO last night.

The Tiny Universe Horns sat in with SCI as they opened the evening with a take on The Beatles’ “Sergeant Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band” that segued into “With A Little Hep From My Friends.” Denson and Littlefield then exited as the band went into a “Just One Story” that contained an “Impressions” tease before moving into “Little Hands,” “Dudley’s Kitchen,” “Yo Se” and “Rain.” The horns then returned to help close out the set with a “Black & White” that played into Stevie Wonder’s “I Wish.”

The horns came back out to join the band for “Can’t Wait Another Day” and “Jellyfish” to start off set two. Next came a rendition of the fan favorite “Rollover,” which was followed by the newer, Keith Mosley-penned tune “Struggling Angel.” The Beatles theme continued as the band threw a “Baby Your A Rich Man” tease into “Looking Glass” before the horns returned to help close out the set with a cover of Kool & The Gang’s classic “Jungle Boogie” that was sandwiched between “Dirk.”

Bill Nershi returned to the stage solo to get the encore going with “Down a River.” The band then paid tribute to their 20th anniversary as the original four members—Nershi, Michael Kang, Keith Moseley and Michael Travis—took the stage for “Lester Had a Coconut” and “Round the Wheel,” with Kyle Hollingsworth and Jason Hann finally appearing midway through that final song.

The String Cheese Incident will return to the 1stBank Center tonight for the second show of their run. The Flaming Lips are set to open for them.

Mason…. dirk and searching for answers are the same song….. its called dirk now because of a fan made video of the 1st searching for answers ever played at hornings that was edited w/ scenes from boogie nights and submitted to the band…. hence this and the name; http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=egG1-qUgJkc great song!!!!

This is actually inaccurate. It was Looking Glass > Dirk > Searching For Answers > Jungle Boogie > Searching For Answers. (Might have gone back to Dirk to finish, but the Jungle Boogie was definitely sandwiched by Searching For Answers.)

In honor of the 20th did they sing in tune for once? Not that the stoned masses would care.

I just found out I was incorrect… kind of. I didn’t realize Searching for Answers was later renamed Dirk. So the setlist showing Dirk > Jungle Boogie > Dirk is in fact correct.
