Dave Matthews Band have announced an extensive summer tour, and they will switch things up this time around. The upcoming shows—dubbed “A Very Special Evening with Dave Matthews Band”—finds the group delivering two sets per evening and performing songs throughout their career. The band will go through a number of configurations during the gigs, which will feature electric and acoustic numbers, as well as a stripped down acoustic pairings with Matthews and longtime collaborator Tim Reynolds. A variety guests will also join them throughout the summer.
“I was talking to Carter about how much I still like just sitting around playing music together. It’s how we started – in the basements of Carter’s and my mom’s houses,” vocalist/guitarist Dave Matthews said in a statement. “Our shows are loose, but we started thinking that maybe this summer we should make them looser and bring some of that feeling to the stage. It seems like the opposite of a safe plan, so why not?”
“Everyone was really psyched about the idea, so we’ve been busy figuring out how to turn it into the best possible experience for our fans,” says drummer Carter Beauford.
The tour will kick off on May 16 at the Dynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion in the Woodlands, TX outside of Houston before DMB make their way across the rest of the country. The outing will feature a number of multi-night stands, including two-night runs in Saratoga Springs, NY, Camden, NJ, Noblesville, IN, Chicago, Hartford, CT and West Palm Beach, FL, as well as three-night runs at the Greek Theatre in Berkeley, CA and The Gorge Amphitheatre in George, WA. The band’s annual trip to the Gorge will be a DMB Caravan event featuring a variety of support acts.
Tickets for the Summer Tour will go on sale February 7 at 10am local time.
