String Cheese Incident Bust Out Covers on First Day of International Incident

The String Cheese Incident kicked off their International Incident at Mexico’s Hard Rock Hotel Riviera Maya last night with a show-opening bust out of Jimmy Buffet’s beach party classic “Margaritaville.” It was the first time that the band had played the tune since March of 1998.

Last night’s show also featured a number of other covers, including Talking Heads’ “This Must Be The Place (Naive Melody),” Peter Rowan’s “Midnight Moonlight” and a encore bust out of Pink Floyd’s “Fearless,” a song that last appeared at SCI’s final pre-hiatus show at Red Rocks in August of 2007.

In addition to the bust outs, highlights from last night’s show included the “Black Clouds” that was sandwiched around “The Must Be The Place (Naive Melody)” to close out the first set and the “Sand Dollar” > “Joyful Sound” > “Just One Story” segment that wrapped up set two.

Yesterday also saw a number of fans gather for SCI’s public soundcheck, which could be seen from hotel balconies and the courtyard behind the soundboard. SCI will continue their International Incident tonight with their second show at the hotel.

Here’s a look at last night’s setlist via PhantasyTour

This looks like a great setlist.

SCI has certainly turned a big corner to the upside since their Halloween shows last year. I mean if this isn’t the best jambands out there you are taking to much ketamine.

Though I enjoy SCI and liked them a whole lot more in their prime (late 90s-2001 ish), they have never been the best jamband out there. Way too inconsistent. Some parts of shows are simply boring and cheesy (no pun) in a bad way. Phish has the torch easily right now with plenty of others better and more consistent. Good setlist here, I’m sure it was fun. But I wouldn’t take the chance getting a clunker of a show from them which is 50% of the time or so

Id hardly say naive melody is a “bust out” for them nor is joyful sound….

I don’t think it says that either of those are bust outs anywhere in this… just the floyd and buffet songs

I don’t believe they are the best jam and right now either but to say their jams can be boring and cheesy and inconsistent only to name Phish as the best is crazy. I’ve been plenty bored during a phish show. Ketamine or no.

You are right I saw three hundo shows from 99 to new year 03-04 which was the second funnest cheese show I have ever been to !!! The first was the palace theatre in Louisville, ky 4-21-99 or 2000 or 2001 but they are not the same since 03”

Phish is so far behind Cheese and Panic right now it isn’t even funny. 90% of Phish shows are mailed in. If you think Phish is the best you need your head checked out. Or just stop taking so much ketamine.

Stop bitching. Both Phish and SCI are amazing.

PHISH phone in their shows now and then count their dividends in amazement how easy it is to take your money.

Charles Brown February 25, 2014, 06:58:52

Who fucking cares. The worst band in music playing a bunch of shitty covers of songs they think people will rave about. These guys are about money not music. The lamest jams on the planet and the cell phone I cant pay attention for 6 minute crowd loves it. If the band is so great, why do all of those fucks hula hoop during the show. Just one more way sheese fans insult your intelligence. If someone would have pulled a fucking hula hoop out during an east coast run of summer dead tour they would have gotten bitch slapped for infringing on peoples personal space. Get real sheese heads, they fucking SUCK. They couldnt even be the guitar techs for Phish, please.

And Dom Pearin Yon, go fuck yourself. You are obviously a douche bag materialist who has no clue about any of it.
