The String Cheese Incident kicked off their International Incident at Mexico’s Hard Rock Hotel Riviera Maya last night with a show-opening bust out of Jimmy Buffet’s beach party classic “Margaritaville.” It was the first time that the band had played the tune since March of 1998.

Last night’s show also featured a number of other covers, including Talking Heads’ “This Must Be The Place (Naive Melody),” Peter Rowan’s “Midnight Moonlight” and a encore bust out of Pink Floyd’s “Fearless,” a song that last appeared at SCI’s final pre-hiatus show at Red Rocks in August of 2007.

In addition to the bust outs, highlights from last night’s show included the “Black Clouds” that was sandwiched around “The Must Be The Place (Naive Melody)” to close out the first set and the “Sand Dollar” > “Joyful Sound” > “Just One Story” segment that wrapped up set two.

Yesterday also saw a number of fans gather for SCI’s public soundcheck, which could be seen from hotel balconies and the courtyard behind the soundboard. SCI will continue their International Incident tonight with their second show at the hotel.
