Wayne Coyne Teams Up with Miley Cyrus in Los Angeles

Never one to shy away from a bizarre sit-in, The Flaming Lips’ Wayne Coyne and Steven Drozd jumped on stage with pop star Miley Cyrus last night in Los Angeles, as Cyrus continued her Bangerz Tour at Staples Center.

Cyrus, who is a well-known fan of Coyne and the Lips’ work, admitted she was terrified to perform with Coyne. The trio, along with members of Cyrus’ band, performed The Flaming Lips’ 2002 hit “Yoshimi Battles The Pink Robots Part One.”

While the first rendition of the song didn’t go particularly well, prompting Miley and Wayne to admit their level of inebriation, the trio performed the song again, in a rare pop show moment. Before The Flaming Lips left the stage, unabashed fan Miley Cyrus exclaimed, “This is the best night of my life.”

Jamesdinct, sometimes fans appoint themselves to monitor the integrity of those the obsess over. Frequently this manifests in a syndrome that causes them to believe anyone with mass-market popularity must be lacking in talent. Because of this programming they sometimes miss something that should be obvious, i.e. despite some questionable material, Miley Cyrus is a hell of a singer. These self-appointed integrity monitors are hopeless and should be ignored online, though should be carefully monitored in the real world lest some poor musician end up like John Lennon.

This is fucking awesome!
Miley sings soooo well with Wayne. I support this and hope they do more together.

I hafta admit that I’m turning the corner and becoming a Miley appreciator (I would hesitate to say ‘fan’). Gaga was interesting for about a minute six years ago with her ‘fame monster’ meta-ness, but Miley has elevated the concept to an art form.

good for wayne, that’s awesome that miley is a fan!! and it’s good for the lips as well! Very cool as well that she even had the twerkiness to bring wayne up there etc. Go Miley!

@ Steeb- haha, that was an awesome explanation. i do not usually indulge haters i just wanted to see if he could back up his opinion with any valid info. i disagreed with the initial opinion but did not want to blast it lest he have something thats actual and factual.

What’s so wrong with that? Some kids went to see Miley Cyrus and walked away interested in finding out more about the Flaming Lips. And with streaming services and youtube they went home and did just that. A good thing all around….and I am a fan of neither the Lips or Cyrus.
