Danyel Morgan Leaves Robert Randolph and The Family Band

Robert Randolph and The Family Band bassist Danyel Morgan—who helped found the group back in 2001—has left the band. Morgan’s exit means that Robert and Marcus Randolph are now the only original members left in the group (founding keyboardist John Ginty parted ways with the band many years ago). As of now, no details have been released regarding Morgan’s departure and no replacement has been named.

Robert Randolph and The Family Band will perform at the Crescent Ballroom tonight. The group have recently been on the road in support of their latest album, Lickity Split, which was released last July.

Crack? March 5, 2014, 09:12:20

I had noticed that it seemed like there were many folks smoking crack at my last family band show. I’m not sure if the band is down or not. I walked out of that show with powder white lips because I got duped 10x by the guy next to me. I thought it was a vape pen but I was to drunk to notice the lighter and the glass pipe. I just wonder if you guys think a burgeoning jambands crack scene is leading guys to retire. I think the band plays faster, butt then you run into situations where you turn into the biscuits with big dental bills.

I saw RRTFB play in Phoenix last night. They played 2 sets for about 2 blistering hours. They elivered as expected! New bassist fit in well. Can’t say I witnessed any crack smoking.

I think OP was on crack when he wrote this.

Just stumbled across this. Disappointing news – Danyel was a huge part of why I like the band so much. Assuming he wants to spend less time on the road and more time with his family, but still, super disappointing.

New bassist has no talent. He can play, but he’s not nearly as good as the original bass play. Disappointed.
