Mike Gordon debuted a few tunes during last night’s performance at the 9:30 Club in Washington, DC. The first set saw the bassist and his band’s second-ever take on the Phish rarity “Spock’s Brain,” which hasn’t been played by the Vermont quartet since 2003 (Gordon debuted his rendition at Webster Hall on Saturday night). The set also featured a take on Max Creek’s “Jones,” as well as takes on the Overstep tunes “Yarmouth Road,” “Long Black Line” and “Surface.”

The debuts started coming early in the second set, when the group played a new original called “Either.” The song was followed by the band’s first-ever rendition of “Puddle,” a tune by drummer Todd Isler’s International Orange. One song later, the band debuted their version of Bonnie Raitt’s “Love On One Condition” before going into their debut of keyboardist Tom Cleary’s “Twists and Bends.” The set then continued with the Overstep tracks “Jumping,” “Paint,” “Say Something” and “Tiny Little World” before wrapping up with “Only A Dream.” Gordon and Company then treated the crowd to an encore of “Loon” and Talking Heads’ “Cities.”

Mike Gordon will continue his tour tomorrow night at The Orange Peel in Asheville, NC.
