Jimmy Fallon Joins Billy Joel at Madison Square Garden

Billy Joel celebrated his 65th birthday last night with a show at Madison Square Garden, continuing his lifetime residency at the famed arena. With celebrities in the house joining Joel for his birthday, he managed to incorporate them into the show as Howard Stern (who helped Joel launch his Sirius XM channel earlier this month) introduced the Piano Man to start the show, even leading the crowd in “Happy Birthday.”

After the first few songs stuck to the blueprint from the ones before it, The Tonight Show host Jimmy Fallon jumped on stage to perform “The Lion Sleeps Tonight” as a duet with Joel. The two performed the song in March when Joel was a guest on The Tonight Show.

As the song ended and Jimmy ditched his coat to reveal the striped jacket underneath, The Ragtime Gals joined him (members of Fallon’s writing team) to do Inner Circle’s “Sweat” in a barbershop quartet style. Fallon then once again led the Garden in “Happy Birthday” before exiting.

The rest of the twenty three-song set included a variety of Joel’s hits and closed with another guest spot, this time from Gavin DeGraw, on “You May Be Right.”

I don’t understand how Howard Stern, and his wife Beth, can be animal advocates while Howard is draped in Varvatos teenage leather collection, and Beth carries that litte white $1500 YSL calf leather purse??? Additionally, Howard could easily finance the new shelter being built at NSAL. He asks Billy to donate his whole concert proceeds? Heck, he just spent $10 million dollars to remodel the bathroom at Beth’s Florida mansion: http://tiny.cc/4xhnfx In regards to North Shore Animal League, every charity verification and auditing service gives NSAL very poor ratings. Most of the money donated goes towards administrative staff payrolls, rather than to the animals. Beth is on that payroll. http://tiny.cc/5yhnfx Hypocrisy.

Stern is one of the biggest hypocrites in the entertainment world today. A talentless hack who lucks out in this country.

^^^^ Wow, a couple of seriously bitter assholes here. Get a life fellas.

Wow, that is an asshole comment.

I don’t know a thing about NSAL’s financial side of things but you can’t question the amount of work and love that Beth and Howard have put into that place. I agree, Howard could have written a check to build that new building, but I think it was a project they wanted to pursue, not just stroke a check. Howard has never championed animal rights, he has spoken at length about adopting animals and giving homes to abandoned animals…those aren’t the same thing. As far as calling Howard a talentless hack is beyond uninformed. He has made himself a billionaire in what is basically a dead medium. If you dismiss his genius from back in the day when the first stripper walked onto the show, then that’s your loss. He’s has evolved into a really aware, open minded, free thinker who has a really quick wit. Baba Boey.

Kb knows what he’s talking about. Stern is the best interviewer out there today.

Well, if Howard is a talentless asshole, he has done really well for himself. And if he wants to build a big animal shelter, I am not going to criticize what he wears or eats. How many of you animal lovers out there never wear leather or eat meat? I am a vegetarian but hate how people want to make someone else’s diet and lifestyle choices their business. He is donating money to help animals. Stop your bitching.
And yes, Howard is and has been the best interviewer around for a long time.
