Tony Iommi Says London Gig Could Be Black Sabbath’s Last

Tony Iommi has suggested that Black Sabbath’s upcoming July 4 show at London’s Hyde Park may be the band’s last. The guitarist told Metal Hammer that group’s headlining performance at the British Summer Time Festival “could be the last ever Sabbath show…I don’t want it to be, but there’s nothing really planned touring-wise after that show, so for all we know that could be it really. To be honest I don’t want to be touring to this extent too much longer, because it makes me feel so bad.”

Iommi was diagnosed with lymphoma in January of 2012, and he wrapped up his treatment in March. The guitarist is now waiting for an update from his doctors.

As previously reported, Black Sabbath are currently on the road in support of their new album, 13. The LP is the band’s first since 1995, and their first studio release to feature Osbourne since 1978’s Never Say Die!.

While I would hate to see them stop, if Iommi is not up to it, he/they have done more than just about anyone in the musical world and should do what they want/need to… just glad I made the trek to Hamilton, ONT a few weeks ago… it may not have been Sabbath from 1976, but for guys in their mid-sixties, they still were better than most bands that are half their age… even if Bill was missing. I hope to see them live again and if not, then I’ll see them on the other side %^)

I went to that Hamilton show too and it was sooooo good. It was my first time seeing them and I would see them again in a heartbeat. This is such shitty news.

IOMI IS UNDERRATED May 16, 2014, 09:06:15

Tony Iomi is such an underrated guitarist he is so fuckn good better than so many listed here on jambands! I think it’s great that he wants to stop after all these years! Especially since ozzy really can’t sing anymore and sings with a backup singer u can’t see on side stage! ( also geezer is very underrated as a bass player) RIP DIO!

There is no side stage singer for Ozzy… that is a ridiculous rumor… listen to his vocals live and you would have no doubt of that… I love Ozzy, but his vocals are stretched thin these days, so unless the back stage phantom singer is there to help make Ozzy’s vocals sound strained, then there is no such phantom of the Sabbath Opera!
