Dumpstaphunk got help from a number of special guests at the Brooklyn Bowl over the weekend. Tedeschi Trucks Band trumpeter Maurice Brown, who used to play with Dumpstaphunk bassist Nick Daniels down in New Orleans, sat in for a few songs during the band’s first set on Friday night. The group was then joined by the Spin Doctors for a special segment later in the night that featured extended takes on Led Zeppelin’s “The Ocean” and The Rolling Stones’ “Miss You.” Dumpstaphunk’s Ivan Neville, who was a member of Spin Doctors from 1996-1999 and sang lead on many songs during that time when Chris Barron lost his voice due to a rare acute form of vocal cord paralysis, also sat in with his old band for “Big Fat Funky Booty” and “What Time Is It?”

Dumpstaphunk returned to the Brooklyn Bowl the following night for a one set show that included extended sit ins from Trey Anastasio Band trombonist Natalie Cressman and saxophonist James Casey, as well as a guest appearance by Chali 2na, who also held down the night’s opening set with House of Vibe.
