The opening night of Mountain Jam closed with a two-set performance from Umphrey’s McGee. This is the start of a busy week for the band as they ready the release of Similar Skin, due out June 10 via Nothing Too Fancy Music. Umphrey’s

During the end of the first set, following a lengthy “Utopian Fir” which was preceded by the new track “Similar Skin,” UM brought out a familiar face in Warren Haynes for a performance of “Thin Air.” Dark Star Orchestra’s Rob Koritz also jumped on percussion with Andy Farag for the set closer. This is the sixth time overall Haynes has sat in with the group, with the last occurring at Wanee Music Festival during the band’s All Night Wrong set.

Additional performances of note include just the third “Cemetery Walk II” of the year, which as per usual featured lengthy improvisation. Umphrey’s also delivered a spooky “2×2” highlighted by a rare vocal jam in the middle of the improv section, as UM Lighting Director Jefferson Waful shut the stage lights off, creating an eerie atmosphere.

Next up for Umphrey’s is a slot at Wakarusa in Ozark, AR. They will also play at Bonnaroo in Manchester, TN next week.
