Ron Howard will direct a documentary on the Beatles as a live act, tracing their days from the clubs in Liverpool to their final show at Candlestick Park in San Francisco in 1966. The Hollywood Reporter is reporting that Nigel Sinclair’s White Horse Pictures will produce the authorized documentary and hopes to release it in theatres late in 2015.

Paul McCartney, Ringo Starr, Yoko Ono and Olivia Harrison are all cooperating with producers Sinclair, Howard and others. This will mark the Beatles’ first theatrical film since Let It Be was released in 1970.

Early research for the project included footage shot in 8mm and Super 8 that has never been available to the public. Producers have been reaching out to collectors to uncover soundboard recordings as well.
