In a new interview with KRXO.com, (via Jambase) , Warren Haynes discusses a variety of topics including the upcoming Beacon Theatre run with the Allman Brothers, marking their final shows as a group. Haynes reveals that the band had been discussing retirement “for the past three years” and that everyone in the band is on board with the decision. He mentions, however, that some members got cold feet as the year progressed.

“Sometime this year some people started changing their mind and getting cold feet and some of us had already made plans accordingly. So it’s not like this whole concept came from Derek and myself, this is something that we all agreed on, but Derek and myself had made plans beyond this year,” Haynes said.

Another noteworthy tidbit came when Haynes was asked about the possibility of a Dickey Betts appearance at the Beacon. “I’d like to see that happen,” Haynes said.

Haynes also gave a brief update on the future of Gov’t Mule, saying that the band will begin work on a new record very soon and they will also be issuing an archival DVD release in the form of their 2008 Halloween show which featured Pink Floyd covers. Their 2009 Halloween show, featuring Rolling Stones covers, will also be released on vinyl. Stay tuned for official word from the band about release dates.
