Bela Fleck and wife Abigail Washburn traded sit ins with Del McCoury and David Grisman over the Halloween weekend as Fleck and Washburn invited the two bluegrass legends out for a four-banjo attack on “Banjo Picking Girl” before the quartet unplugged for off-mic takes on “Don’t That Road Look Rough” and “Rocky.”

The next night in Portland, ME at Merrill Auditorium, Fleck and Washburn joined Del McCoury Band. “A good time was had by all,” the banjo player said.

In a statement, Fleck also added, “I have known both of these acoustic giants since I was in my early 20’s. And both have represented the very best in their particular areas, Grisman the master of modern acoustic instrumental music, and Del – even then holding the line on tradition – but without stuffiness, or prejudice towards any other forms. Both have been incredibly encouraging to me, and that’s why I enjoyed this evening so very much.”
