Ryan Adams expressed his frustration with a concertgoer during Wednesday night’s show at the Tower Theatre in Philadelphia after her camera flash triggered a Ménière’s attack. Stereogum reports that Adams, who suffers from Ménière’s Disease—a disorder of the inner ear that can sometimes cause episodes of vertigo—raised the issue in the middle of “Oh My Sweet Carolina.” According to the poster of the above YouTube video, Adams had repeatedly requested that the woman not use flash photography before finally addressing her directly. At one point, the singer-songwriter shared his exasperation by uttering the memorable line, “Hi, my name is Ryan and I have Ménière’s Disease. If you flash me with your camera, it feels like you took a lightsaber and you sliced my brain in half.”

Concertgoers are encouraged to keep this mind as Adams returns to the stage tomorrow night for a two-night stand at New York City’s Hammerstein Ballroom.
